Ken Hawick holds the Chair of Computer Science at Massey University, Albany. Formerly, Professor Hawick was Head of Computer Science at the University of Wales, Bangor and was founding Director of the Centre for Advanced Software technology (CAST) in Wales. Hawick founded and led the Distributed and High-Performance Computing Research Group (DHPC) at the University of Adelaide, Australia from 1996 to 2000 and then at Bangor until 2003. Hawick also ran the Numerical Simulations Group at Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre until 1992, and worked at the Northeast Parallel Architectures Center in New York from 1992-95, and for the UK Meteorological Office from 1995-96. Hawick has a PhD in Computational Physics from the University of Edinburgh and is a Member of the IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, ACM, SIAM, the Institute of Physics, the British Computer Society, and is a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society, an Associate Member of the Chartered Management Institute and is a member of the Royal Society of New Zealand. Hawick's research interests are in: parallel and high-performance computing systems and computational science simulations - particularly complex systems including complex networks and models of artificial life.
