Intranet Problems

CTCP Virtual Private Network (VPN)

In order to be able to access the CTCP Intranet your computer has to be a part of the CTCP Virtual Private Network (VPN). This is always the case for our own machines (eg hydrogen, helium, ..., bose, fermi etc.). If you need access from a private computer (eg your laptop) please talk to Andrew to arrange access.

Proxy exceptions

In order to actually access our intranet website your browser needs to contact the server directly (and not through the university's web proxy). Please add the following ip address range to the proxy exclusions of your favourite browser:

172.17.0.0/16

Examples:

In Firefox 2.0.0.6: Edit/Preferences/Advanced/Network/Connection (Settings)/No Proxy for: 172.17.0.0/16

In Opera 9.21: Tools/Preferences/Advanced/Network/Proxy servers/Do not use proxy on the addresses below: 172.17.*

In Galeon 2.0.2: Edit/Preferences/Network/Configure Network Proxy/Advanced Configuration/Add: 172.17.0.0/16

In Konqueror 3.5.6: Settings/Configure Konqueror/Proxy/Manually specify the proxy settings (Setup)/Exceptions (New): 172.17.0.0/16 (Note: Do NOT tick the "Use proxy only for entries in this list"-checkbox)

In Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.11: Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN Settings/Proxy Server (Advanced)/Do not use proxy server for addresses beginning with: 172.17.*
