EndNote X3 - a personal view

by Jane Brooker, College Liaison Email

I have just installed EndNote X3 on my laptop and was very pleasantly surprised to find the whole process (including uninstalling EndNote X2) was very simple and quick! Thanks heaps to my Library colleagues Chris Good and Rob Hallam for crafting a nice little automatic script which runs as the 2nd phase of installing EndNote X3, and configures EndNote to access Massey University's full-text journal content.

The huge advantage that X3 has for off-campus users (or those availing themselves of the wireless network facilities on-campus) is that once a batch of references have been downloaded, a simple command lets EndNote X3 match up the citations with any full-text articles it can find. Much less need now to save the pdf (once located) and then drag and drop it into your EndNote Library - the "Find Full Text" command will do a substantial proportion of the retrieval and linking automatically.

More detailed information about the new features in EndNote X3 is on an earlier news item and Library staff will be updating handouts and training material in the near future. EndNote classes resume at the start of Semester One 2010.

EndNote X3: now available for purchase

by Chris Good, Sciences Librarian, College Liaison Email

Purchase EndNote X3 The Library is delighted to announce that EndNote X3 is now available for purchase. Instructions for obtaining X3 are on the ITS EndNote page.

EndNote X3 offers the same range of features as X2, but with extended capabilities in many aspects - including significantly enhanced off-campus and wireless full-text access.

Those with EndNote versions older than X2 should upgrade to X3, making sure to uninstall the old version before installing the new one. X2 users may wish to consider upgrading to gain its improved full-text downloading capabilities. (Alternatively, X2 users can download and run the Massey Profile Installer to get the latest Massey configuration, including the new APA 6th style.)

EndNote X3 will available on Information Commons and Lab machines in due course.

IT & Library Help at Contact Courses

by Massey University Library Email

Welcome to extramural students visiting campus libraries over the semester break. If we can do anything to help you while you're here, please just ask! Borrowing, finding information, EndNote, IT problems...

If you need computer help, Turitea Library has an IT assistant available during week days. Rob can help you with assignment formatting, MS Office, wireless access, laptops, and more. Or pick up one of our IT tip sheets, which cover many different topics.

If you're new to EndNote (referencing software), you might like to check our classes schedule. It would pay to book now to be sure of getting a place.

Postgraduate students needing a research consultation to help with finding information should also arrange a time ahead of arriving, if possible.

And of course Lending and Information Desk staff are happy to help with any other library questions you may have.

Please contact us if you have any queries.
