The Library and Stream

by Alison Wallbutton Email

Academics – would you like to add Library content to your Stream site? Over the past few months Library staff have been working on creating content and developing support material for anyone teaching in Stream. You can watch an online presentation of what is available here. The presentation gives you some ideas of how you can provide Library content at point of need for your students to complement your teaching. It also includes some important need-to-know information about providing links and journal article licence requirements.

Please contact your Liaison Librarian if you would like assistance with including Library resources and guidance in your Stream paper.

'How to Find' Demos

by Massey University Library Email

Find a journal article when you have the titleNot sure how to find a book or journal article? We now have some short online demonstrations to help you on our 'How to Find' pages. They show you how to find: a journal article when you know the title (right); articles on your assignment topic; and books when you know the title or author. We'll let you know as we add further demonstrations.

These demonstrations are also available for embedding into your Stream, WebCT or other online courses, on our Teaching Support page. We have developed these, and several other online tutorials, for the College of Education and College of Business, and more are planned.

Library in Stream

by Massey University Library Email

We have new content on the Library website for staff wanting to incorporate Library resources and guidance into Stream or other online courses.

On the Library’s Teaching Support page you'll find Support for Stream and Teaching Online (scroll to the bottom of the page). This gives you a range of ways to connect your students to Library resources within the online course.

How to find a known journal article Teaching Support also provides you with ways to connect your students to Library help with searching for information. This includes some suggested links to content on the Library website, as well as some ‘animated tutorials’ on how to find information - click on the example to the right. A sample of these has been made for College of Education and College of Business, and more are planned. Links to these tutorials can be placed within a Stream course, and Library staff are able to update them as needed.

We believe the location of links to resources and guidance within a course is critical - they are of most value at ‘point of need’. Library staff will be very happy to work with you to incorporate these links.

Our main aim at the moment is to create the tutorials as reusable learning objects, as we see this as the most sustainable way forward. Having said this we would encourage you to contact Liaison Librarians if you need specific material developed for your course.

Please let us know what you think of these new resources by leaving a comment below.
